Work Log
In no particular order:

  • I have no idea whether or not he reads this log, but in case he does, let me say THANK YOU and WELCOME to John, our [Fraction's and mine] new intern from the Creative Writing Program at KCAI. John's here once a week for three hours. Thus far he's done the translations checks on BLACK CAT and KARE FIRST LOVE. (Poor thing.) Yesterday was his birthday. Happy Birthday, John! He's 21.

  • Turned in a very short piece (4 pages) for an upcoming comics anthology that I don't think has been announced, so I'll leave out the particulars for the time being. I spent 3 or 4 days playing narrative Sudoku, attempting to make a La Ronde-style story I'd pitched work and ended up failing miserably. My next attempt -- a short piece about two sisters with their savings riding on mid-week race at Belmont Park -- also ended in creative abortion. I finally went back to an old script (my first attempt at comic writing, I think), an un-published mini called PERFECT BOUND, and attempted to adapt that. What I ended up with was a piece called TROPICAL BUTTERFLIES ALIVE IN WINTER... and it's entirely unlike PERFECT BOUND. Funny how that happens.

  • I think I've chosen an artist for NORMAL JEAN, though I still need to have him do up a sample page for my publisher/editor and get his approval, which means, of course, that the artist needs some script pages. I thought I'd have something to give him by now, but the burglary and Christmas BURIED me. And, I confess, I lost confidence and enthusiasm for the project there for a while, but I'm all fired up again. I'm working on start scripting on Monday at long last. If I could just get ahead of my deadlines a little! Two near all-nighters this week -- one on 2 hours of sleep, one on 3 -- I'm too old for this crap. I hope to be caught up by Friday, though. Cross your fingers for me.

  • I had something else to tell you but I've forgotten what it was. Lucky you.
