Felt very popular with invites to 2 openings: a mail art show (Bay Area Dadaists: Before Punk & Zines) at Printed Matter curated by, I believe, John Held Jr. and my friend Sasha's on Bank Street. At Printed Matter, Joel Cohen passed out Ray Johnson masks made out of paper bags and had us all line up against the back wall for a group photo. I didn’t get to stay long enough to look through all of the cool old Anna Banana stuff, so I’ll have to go back. Joel invited me to Katz’s for the annual dinner, and I promised to try, but knew I wouldn’t make it because of Sasha’s thing and Cheryl’s birthday to follow.
I cabbed it down to Bank Street and found Sasha’s show in three tiny rooms on the sixth floor of an office building. It was packed, largely with Europeans, I think, because most everyone was smoking. Sasha rolls his own cigarettes, which always amuses me. I found Sasha, wearing the same big black overalls I think he always wears and he jumped up to greet me. He does the double-cheek air kiss thing, which can be annoying from some but is utterly charming from him somehow. He went to get me a glass of wine and I chatted with this really cool girl – whose name I can’t remember for some reason – who has a schematic tattoo on her forearm. I’d met her once before when Sasha brought her to a Mind Gorilla reading. I think they’re a couple but it’s not obvious. She was really funny and girly and we got along well. By the time Sasha returned with wine I was promising to come look through the clothes she designs and sells from her apartment. She doesn’t have a phone, though, so I’m not sure how we’ll arrange it. Through Sasha, she suggested. A Swedish guy with sexy shoes joined us at that point and we talked about St. Lucia a bit. My knowledge of that subject was exhausted pretty quickly (December 13th, a blonde chick with candles on her head…) and I excused myself to look at the paintings. Most of the big ones I’d seen before but there was one, kind of medium-sized I suppose, that I fell in love with. It’s was only $375 – not bad for Art – but more than I have to drop of course. Before I left I was interviewed by a Video Performance artist. Very odd.

New Year's Eve MLF fete at Baby Jupiter went off without a hitch. Well, as long as you don't count my falling on my ass a hitch. Betty played. Love the Betty.
New Year's DAY of course was the real fun. Bar crawl with D and Prada for most of the day. Pinball with Prada and CJ at Ace Bar. I was mopping the floor with the boys until David from Mr. Show came along and took me to school. How surreal is that?
Crawled to Jupiter to stare at Michael, but alas, he was off duty. Ended the evening at Odessa with Erik, Jeff and Some Guy Who Used To Be A Roadie for GWAR.
Bliss.
